Amaury Média to handle ad sales for Mediapro's new Téléfoot channel
Mediapro, the Spanish rights agency and production company, has appointed Amaury Média, the advertising sales agency of the Amaury Group, to market advertising for Téléfoot, the new home of domestic soccer in France.
Amaury Média’s contract will run until 2024, in line with Mediapro France's contract with the LFP, the French league, for rights to Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.
The firm was selected ahead of TF1, the French commercial broadcaster, for the advertising contract, Le Figaro newspaper reported.
Kevin Benharrats, managing director of Amaury Média, said: “The Téléfoot channel will offer advertisers premium editorial content, positive news, and engaged audiences.
“The know-how of our teams, our expertise in the world of sport and our ability to enhance male target (groups) are assets which add to the enthusiasm generated by the creation of this new channel. Our teams are hard at work for the launch of sales in early July.”
Julien Bergeaud, managing director of Mediapro Sport France, added: “Synergy with the other media marketed by Amaury Média, including L’Equipe [the French newspaper], is an asset. This partnership will allow us to offer attractive and innovative solutions to our advertisers, and to meet their expectations as closely as possible.”
Earlier this month, Téléfoot was unveiled as Mediapro's soccer channel in France, in a partnership with TF1 covering brand licensing (Téléfoot is the name of a long-running weekly soccer magazine programme on TF1) and an editorial/production element, with an hourly Ligue 1 magazine show to air every Sunday from 12 noon. The pair will also produce Téléfoot Vintage, showing classic matches from the archives.
Téléfoot will offer live coverage of 80 per cent of domestic fixtures, comprising eight matches per round from each of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2. Gregoire Margotton and French 1998 World Cup winner Bixente Lizarazu, TF1's commentary team for France national team matches, will commentate on major Ligue 1 games for Téléfoot.
Mediapro is paying more than €800 million ($898 million) per year for the main packages of rights to Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 for the next four seasons. Its Ligue 1 kick-off slots are Friday 9pm, Saturday 5pm, Sunday 1pm, the Sunday 3pm multiplex and showpiece Sunday 9pm.
Pay-TV operator BeIN Sports has sub-licensed its two Ligue 1 games each week to rival Canal Plus, which will show them at 9pm on Saturday and 5pm on Sunday.
Mediapro announced earlier this year that its French soccer service will be priced at €25 per month. Distribution partners have yet to be announced.
Téléfoot will also carry all 266 games per season from the European club soccer's second-tier Europa League and new third-tier Europa Conference League from 2021-22 to 2023-24.
