BeIN in 11th hour deal for live Austrian Cup final rights worldwide
BeIN Media Group, the international pay-television broadcaster, has agreed a late deal with the ÖFB, the Austrian soccer federation, to show tonight's Uniqa ÖFB Cup Final in multiple territories worldwide.
The agreement is exclusive in USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, Asia and the 24 countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
The match between Austrian Bundesliga champions Red Bull Salzburg and second-tier Austria Lustenau will kick off at 8.45pm (CET) in Klagenfurt, and is being shown in Austria by public-service broadcaster ORF.
Richard Verow, chief sports officer of BeIN, said today: “After an incredibly challenging few months for everyone, we’re absolutely delighted that live sport is returning safely to our screens, which will bring much needed joy and excitement to households all across the world.
“After seeing historic-high viewing figures when the [German] Bundesliga returned a few weeks ago on BeIN Sports, we can’t wait to broadcast the Uniqa ÖFB Cup Final across our global network so that sports fans can once again join in with the action and watch a trophy be lifted.”
The rights deal was brokered on behalf of the ÖFB by Hogmore Media, which organises, produces coverage of and distributes rights to soccer friendlies.
Hogmore was a founder of Content Arena, the online sports rights trading service launched by Erik Lorenz and Sascha Kojic in late 2017.
Sportcal reported last week that Content Arena had added rights to the final of the ÖFB Cup to its offering to media companies.
The cup final precedes the resumption of the 2019-20 Tipico Bundesliga season on 2 June.
