Lagardère to distribute soccer star's new documentary worldwide
Lagardère Sports, the international sports marketing agency, has taken on the global distribution role for a new feature-length television documentary on Senegalese soccer star Sadio Mané.
The documentary, which aims to tell the story of Mané’s life, through his upbringing in Senegal through to his current role as a key player at English giants Liverpool, will be distributed for free in Europe via Rakuten TV, the live sports streaming platform.
It is entitled Made in Senegal, and uses a combination of archive footage, documentary scenes, and player interviews.
Lagardère is also distributing the documentary on an exclusive rights basis to Canal Plus, the French-language broadcaster, in French-speaking African countries (including Senegal), and also to SuperSport, the dominant pay-television network in sub-Saharan Africa.
The agency, alongside arena11, a German-based sports agency, will also make the documentary available via pay-per-view for every territory worldwide which does not have an existing broadcast arrangement in place.
Mané, who won European soccer's prestigious Champions League with Liverpool last season, plans to donate all of the money made through PPV to charity.
There is a growing demand for non-live sports content at present, whether documentaries or archive footage, with the continued absence of live sport due to the ongoing coronavirus hitting broadcasters' schedules.
