Betfred eyes US exposure with sponsorship of Wilder-Fury II
Betfred, the UK-based betting company, has signed up as an official sponsor of the heavyweight boxing rematch between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury later this month.
Betfred wants to use the 22 February fight in Las Vegas to further grow its presence in USA, which has become a greater focus for European bookmakers since the May 2018 Supreme Court ruling overturning the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act that limited sports betting to a few states.
It opened its first US sportsbook at Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort in Iowa and recently agreed on deals with both Wind Creek Bethlehem, for Pennsylvania sports betting operations, and Saratoga Casino, (or Colorado sports betting operations.
Fight promoters Tom Brown, president of TGB Promotions, and Bob Arum, chairman of Top Rank, said in a joint statement, "We're happy to have Betfred as an official sponsor for the highly anticipated Wilder vs. Fury II rematch on February 22. This is a 50-50 fight for the heavyweight championship of the world and we're sure that fans all around the globe will be watching to see all of the drama unfold."
WBC champion Wilder, from USA, and the UK's Fury drew their last contest in 2018.
