Sky NZ secures rights to Under-18 Softball World Cup on home soil
The World Baseball Softball Confederation has awarded exclusive domestic broadcast rights to the Under-18 Men’s Softball World Cup, which starts in New Zealand later this month, to pay-television broadcaster Sky.
Sky New Zealand will be the sole domestic home on linear TV of the 12-team World Cup, which takes place in Palmerston North from 22 February to 1 March.
The broadcaster will offer 33 live games to its subscribers, including the bronze medal match (no semi-finals are involved) and the final.
The WSBC will be live-streaming all 50 tournament matches on Game Time, its official over-the-top platform, and on its official YouTube channel.
Tommy Velazquez, the chairman of WSBC Softball, said: “Sky’s experience and knowledge guarantees for us a world-class production and a top-level product. In addition, with all the games available on our digital channels for the rest of the world, we expect record-breaking audiences.”
The Under-18 World Cup is being seen as a test event for New Zealand as it prepares to host the Men’s Softball World Championship in Auckland in 2021.
