First Danish sponsor on board for 2021 Tour de France Grand Départ
Dansk Metal, the Danish trade union, has signed up as a sponsor of the 2021 Grand Départ, the start of road cycling's Tour de France, which will be held in Copenhagen.
Dansk Metal becomes the first Danish partner of the event and will serve as an ‘official fan’.
Copenhagen was officially unveiled as the host of the 2021 Grand Départ 12 months ago, in what will be the furthest north the iconic race has ever visited.
Amaury Sport Organisation, organiser of the Tour de France, this week confirmed the route for the first three stages: a 13 kilometre time-trial through downtown Copenhagen; a 199km ride from Roskilde to Nyborg; and another 182km ride from Vejle to Sonderborg.
Christian Prudhomme, Tour de France event director, said: “The first few days of the Tour de France often set the tone and atmosphere of a race that develops into whatever the riders want to make of it over the following three weeks. The first three stages will showcase the landscapes of Denmark and give rise to a wide range of scenarios in which power riders, echelon experts and sprinters will all get a chance to shine—a compendium of bicycle racing on flat terrain.”
Frank Jensen, Copenhagen’s mayor, said: “It’s going to be a celebration for Danes everywhere, on our streets and on the country roads. At the same time, we get to show our beautiful, cycling nation to the whole world.”
