Wasserman launches unit dedicated to promoting female athletes
Wasserman, the US sports and entertainment agency, has announced plans to launch a new division dedicated to promoting female athletes.
The Collective will aim to connect major companies, consumers and fans with some of USA's best-known female athletes.
Thayer Lavielle, executive vice-president of the new department, said: "The Collective is the culmination of decades of successful work representing women and helping brands connect to women. We have both a responsibility and an opportunity to utilise our expertise and network to empower women. With the backing of all of Wasserman and Casey [Wasserman, the agency's head], The Collective aims to contribute to that goal while moving our industry forward."
Wasserman has more than 150 female athletes on its books and represents more than half of the members of the US women’s national soccer team, the recently-crowned World Cup champions, including Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan (pictured left and right respectively).
Separately, the Wasserman Foundation has committed $1 million to fund charitable programmes encouraging the growth and development of women in sports and entertainment.
