Gulf telecoms firms eye Moroccan league title sponsorship
Saudi Arabian and Qatari telecoms firms are battling it out to become the new title sponsor of the Botola 1, Moroccan soccer's top league, according to reports in the North African country.
The FRMF, the Moroccan soccer federation, is on the hunt for a new sponsor after long-serving partner Maroc Telecom, the national telecoms firm, announced it would not renew its present deal, which expires at the end of this month.
The federation's four-year deal with Maroc Telecom is worth 162 million dirhams ($16.8 million) in total, and the interest from Saudi and Qatari firms has given the FRMF the confidence it can land a new four-year contract worth up to 200 million dirhams.
Maroc Telecom has been the title sponsor of the Botola since 2000.
