Europa League sponsors return final tickets because of Baku inaccessibility
Sponsors of European soccer’s second-tier Uefa Europa League are reported to be set to return a large proportion of tickets they had been allocated for next week’s final between Arsenal and Chelsea of England’s top-tier Premier League.
The sponsors are said to have struggled to find takers for the tickets in view of the difficulty and cost of travelling to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, which is staging the game.
The sponsors are following in the footsteps of the two clubs, which are jointly planning to return 6,000 tickets combined, more than half of their allocation, for the same reason, leading to fears that the match will be played in front of rows of empty seats.
Europa League sponsors are FedEx, Hankook, Heineken (using its Amstel brand), Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Kia Motors, with Molten as the ball supplier.
