Mediaset and streaming platform Footters share Segunda División B play-offs
Mediaset España, the Spanish commercial broadcaster, and Footters, the subscription streaming platform, have been awarded rights to show the promotion play-offs in the Segunda División B, the third-tier soccer competition in the country.
Under deals with the RFEF, the Spanish football federation, Mediaset will show two matches from the first round of fixtures, which take place this weekend, expected to be on free-to-air channel Cuatro, with the remainder on Footters.
The play-offs involve 16 teams (the top four from four different leagues) competing in two-legged eliminatory matches, and run until 30 June, with the four winners earning places in the second-tier Segunda División overseen by LaLiga.
Footters will also be providing live coverage of the promotion play-offs in the third-tier Tercera División, in the shape of the home games of 24 clubs with which it has rights deals, adding up to more than 70 matches.
The platform, which recently secured a new round of financing of €900,000 ($1 million), is looking to make a name for itself as the over-the-top home of lower-league soccer in Spain.
