DAZN secures Copa del Rey final rights in multiple markets
DAZN, the international over-the-top sports streaming platform, has secured exclusive rights in four of its markets to this weekend's final of Spanish soccer’s Copa del Rey, the domestic cup competition.
DAZN will show the 25 May clash between Barcelona and Valencia exclusively in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Japan, and non-exclusively in Italy.
Jacopo Tonoli, chief commercial officer of DAZN, said: “With a stacked football offering across Japan, Italy and DACH, DAZN fans can now watch two of the best teams from Spain battle it out in the Copa del Rey final. Such prestigious tournaments like the Copa del Rey are critical to keeping fans all of sports, leagues and teams continually engaged in our product and we look forward to giving fans all the action.”
The final, which is being played in Sevilla, kicks off at 8pm (CET).
DAZN recently launched in Spain, where this weekend's final is due to be shown on TVE, the Spanish public service broadcaster, for the second consecutive year.
The RFEF, the Spanish soccer federation, sells rights to the final of the Copa del Rey separately from the rest of the competition, and has recently agreed a deal with Eleven Sports, the international subscription broadcaster, to show the match in Belgium, Luxembourg, Portugal, Poland and Taiwan, and with Discovery Networks Denmark, an arm of the international broadcasting group.
