Sao Paulo at top of list if and when Brazil gets NFL game
The possibility of Brazil hosting an NFL regular season game is becoming more realistic, with Sao Paulo the favoured city, and the Arena Corinthians, the home of the eponymous soccer club, the most likely venue, it has been reported.
The chances of the NFL taking a game to Brazil have grown with Akash Jain, the league’s vice-president of international commercial development, having visited Brazil in March, according to the UOL portal.
Jain is said to have been to Sao Paulo and checked out the Arena Corinthians (pictured), Allianz Park, the home of Palmeiras, and the Pacaembu Stadium, a multi-purpose venue.
However, the Arena Corinthians is understood to be regarded as the best option as it has the highest capacity, of around 48,000, and best transport links, and sizeable space around it that could be used for activations by the league and its sponsors.
Until now, the only regular season NFL games staged outside USA have been in the UK and Mexico, which will host four and one respectively in the 2019 season.
