UK's WOS Wrestling secures US broadcast deal with Stadium
WOS Wrestling, a UK-based wrestling organisation, has secured a broadcast deal with US multi-platform network Stadium.
Stadium will air 10 one-hour-long shows, one per week, starting on 12 May.
It marks the first time that a UK-produced wrestling series has been licensed to a US broadcaster. WOS Wrestling is produced by ITV Studios and for ITV, the UK commercial free-to-air broadcaster.
Stadium, based in Chicago, is a sports-specific, free-to-air digital platform and network owned by various organisations in USA, including ice hockey's National Hockey League, golf’s PGA Tour, and Sinclair Broadcasting Group. Other sports available to watch live on Stadium include college American football, college basketball and baseball. The live content is streamed worldwide.
WOS Wrestling is a legacy of the wrestling programming that went out on the World of Sport show from 1955 to 1985. The current format was launched in 2016, and the first multi-episode series was aired on ITV last summer. Earlier this year, the operation organised a live tour across the UK.
WOS Wrestling also has a broadcast deal with Fite TV, a video streaming service for boxing and wrestling, and airs in Poland, India, and across sub-Saharan Africa.
WOS has appointed ITV Licensing, the organisation's media rights licensing arm, as its official global broadcast rights distribution partner.
