Giro d'Italia 2020 to start in Hungary
The Giro d’Italia, one of cycling’s three annual ‘Grand Tours’, will next year start in Hungary, the first time the race has visited the country.
Budapest, the capital, will host the official start, the Grande Partenza, and there will also be two further stages in the country, it was announced today in a ceremony at the Italian Cultural Institute in Budapest.
This will be the 14th time that the Giro d’Italia, run by RCS Sport, has begun outside Italy.
Since 2010 in Amsterdam, the organisers have staged the Grande Partenza on foreign soil, with Herning (Denmark), Belfast (Northern Ireland), Apeldoorn (Netherlands), and Jerusalem (Israel) playing host in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018, respectively.
This year's Giro d'Italia will start in Bologna, and will run between 11 May and 2 June.
