Pique's Kosmos lands main partner for Andorran soccer club
Morabanc, the financial institution based in Andorra, has signed up as the main sponsor of FC Andorra, the local soccer club that competes in Spanish soccer's fifth-tier and which is owned by Kosmos, the sports and media investment group founded by Spanish soccer star Gerard Pique.
Kosmos has owned FC Andorra since the end of last year, and Morabanc is the first major commercial partner on board.
The bank already puts its name to Andorra's professional basketball team that plays in Spain's top-tier Liga Endesa.
Pique said: "We wanted an Andorran partner because it is very important to involve the people here. It [the acquisition of the club] all started when my team and I saw that it was a great opportunity, that this club had great potential and that it was a country project, an entity with a lot of history. The medium-term objective is to upgrade... to much higher aspirations."
Pique's Kosmos is helping to bankroll the revamped Davis Cup, the men's tennis' national teams tournament.
