BT Sport retains Speedway World Championships rights to 2021
BT Sport, the UK pay-television operator, has extended its exclusive deal to show motorcycling's FIM Speedway World Championships by a further three seasons.
The broadcaster will show every round of the FIM Speedway Grand Prix series, as well as the Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations, up to and including the 2021 season.
The new deal was negotiated with BSI Speedway, the rights holder for the events and a subsidiary of global sports marketing giant IMG.
The previous agreement expired at the end of the 2018 season.
BT Sport began showing the Grand Prix and Speedway of Nations exclusively in 2016 as part of a three-year deal with BSI Speedway, and in 2017 completed the set of prominent competitions by acquiring the rights to the Speedway GB Premiership, which it will show until the end of 2020.
The first speedway event of the season on BT Sport will be Race Off 1 in the Speedway of Nations, on 4 May.
The sport has a significant following in the UK helped by home rider Tai Woffinden having been crowned world champion on three occasions, including in 2018.
