Industry veterans Crowley and Gabriel join forces to launch boutique agency Druid
Diarmuid Crowley and Essar Gabriel, the sports industry veterans and consultants, have joined forces to launch Druid, a boutique sports management and marketing company.
Druid will work across three areas of expertise - rights representation, consulting and sports technology - and has established offices in Dublin, London, Dubai and Singapore.
Both graduates of the Instead Business School, Crowley spent most of his career at IMG, the international sports and entertainment company, as senior vice-president, while Gabriel (pictured) has made his name working in Olympic sports.
During his time at IMG, Crowley managed Uefa’s Euro 2008 and Champions League soccer final hospitality programme, oversaw the commercialisation of the new Wembley Stadium and was chief executive of the Rio 2016 Olympics hospitality programme.
He also acted as chief operating officer of IMG’s Brazilian operations and previously managed IMG’s activities in Russia, Turkey and Qatar. He was most recently chief commercial officer of the Portugal Football Federation.
Gabriel worked for the France 98 Fifa World Cup and Sydney 2000 Olympics before becoming chief executive of the Paris 2003 IAAF World Athletics Championships and chief operating officer of the Paris 2012 Olympic bid, which lost out to London in the race to stage the games.
He then headed up the Youth Olympic Games at the International Olympic Committee before moving on to become secretary general of the IAAF, athletics’ world governing body.
