BT Sport ups WRC commitment in multi-year renewal
BT Sport, the UK pay-television broadcaster, is to increase its coverage of motor racing's World Rally Championship in 2019, after striking a new multi-year rights deal.
BT Sport, which has held WRC rights since 2014, is to show every stage live from all 14 rounds.
The action will be available across its various platforms, featuring live action, a pre-event magazine show, nightly highlights and post-rally review.
In 2019, WRC Promoter, the series rights-owner, will be offering more than 350 hours of programming to rights-holding broadcasters.
The new season opens in Monte Carlo on 24 January. Other races will take place in Sweden, Mexico, Chile, Corsica in France, Argentina, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Turkey, the UK, Spain and Australia.
At present, there is no free-to-air broadcaster signed up in the UK for the forthcoming WRC season.
Highlights of the series were carried on ITV4, the digital sports and entertainment channel of commercial broadcaster ITV, in both 2014 and 2015, after which free-to-air rival Channel 5 held the rights.
