DSport to show NYC Marathon in India
DSport, the Indian sports television channel, has announced it will provide live coverage of this Sunday’s New York City Marathon, the largest event of its kind in the world.
It will be the first marathon to be shown by the broadcaster, which is owned by US media giant Discovery, Inc.
The live broadcast begins at 7.40pm Indian time.
Television coverage of the New York City Marathon is set to reach 650 million homes in 176 countries, and there is a strong Indian element with Tata Consultancy Services, the country’s IT services giant, continuing to act as the title sponsor in an eight-year deal that runs to 2021.
The race, which attracts 50,000 runners, is televised live in USA by WABC-TV (via ABC7) in the New York area and ESPN (via ESPN2) nationally, and the two networks this week extended their rights deal with organiser New York Road Runners until 2022.
WABC-TV and ESPN have been the home of the marathon since 2013.
