Tokyo 2020 launches public participation initiative in run-up to games
Tokyo 2020, the Olympic Games organising committee, has launched ‘Tokyo 2020 Let’s 55’, a new initiative aimed at enabling the public to try out some of the 55 Olympic and Paralympic sports in the months leading up to the games.
Organised in collaboration with Mitsui Fudosan, one of Japan’s leading real estate companies, Tokyo 2020 Let’s 55, a play on the Japanese expression ‘go-go’ meaning 55, will kick off with an opening ceremony in Tokyo on 16 August.
Supported by various Tokyo 2020 sponsors, the project forms part of Tokyo 2020’s nationwide participation programme, which aims to promote the involvement of local authorities across Japan in the hosting of sports events that engage their local communities.
Tokyo 2020 said that it believes that the initiative will help spur the participation of young people in sports activities, one of the planned legacies of the Tokyo 2020 games.
