Prices unveiled for new RMC Sport channels
Altice, the telecoms group, has unveiled the pricing of its new RMC Sport channels in France as it prepares to take on the rights to the Uefa Champions League and Europa League from next season onwards.
The existing SFR Sport channels are being rebranded to RMC Sport and will cost €9 ($10.44) per month for existing SFR fixed-line or mobile customers.
Non-subscribers will be charged €19 per month for the six channels, an increase of €4 per month on the current SFR Sport Europe package offering access to five sports channels.
The name switch ahead of the Champions League and Europa League coverage comes after Alain Weil, head of the SFR group in France, said that the SFR Sport name “did not facilitate” deals with rival telecoms companies.
Altice also holds rights to England’s Premier League and will show 343 live European soccer games next season, showcasing the content on the RMC Sport 1 channel.
Other sports rights held by RMC Sport include basketball’s EuroLeague and Pro A, athletics’ Diamond League and the fights of the UK's world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua.
The SFR Sport channels went live in the summer of 2016 solely on SFR’s own IPTV service and the (SFR-owned) Numéricable platform, as part of efforts attract more customers for broadband and telephone packages.
Altice has been looking to sell on selected free-to-air rights to the Champions League and Europa League games, having invested €1.05 billion in the rights over the next three seasons.
