PGA Tour launches OTT channel on Xumo
Golf’s PGA Tour has launched an advertising-supported channel on Xumo, the live and video-on-demand over-the-top content service provider, aiming to provide both live and on-demand programming.
The programming will include highlights, recaps, player interviews, tournament previews and live featured hole coverage from PGA Tour Live.
The PGA Tour is the latest US professional sports body to venture into digital delivery after Major League Baseball earlier this month struck its first digital-only national broadcast deal with Facebook, the social media giant, for the 2018 season, which gets under way next month.
Following agreement with all 30 MLB teams, MLB Network will produce and Facebook will broadcast 25 afternoon games in the season - one a week, mostly on Wednesdays - exclusively on Facebook Watch, its live video platform in USA. Games will be available globally, excluding select international markets.
Meanwhile, the PGA Tour has introduced PGA Tour AR, an augmented reality app for iPhones and iPads which made its debut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last week.
