BandSports 'retains French Open rights to 2020'
BandSports, the Brazilian pay-TV cable sports broadcaster, is set to continue to show tennis’ French Open, one of the sport’s four ‘grand slams’, after striking a new deal for rights to the tournament, according to reports in Brazil.
The broadcaster is said to have sealed a three-year renewal which includes rights to air the 2018, 2019 and 2020 editions.
BandSports’ initial four-year deal with the French Tennis Federation expired after this year’s event.
In a separate deal, BandSports is also said to have acquired rights to various tournaments on the ATP Tour, the top professional men’s tennis tour.
The agreement with the ATP is understood to include 13 events from the third-tier ATP 250, 12 tournaments from the second-tier ATP 500 series and the Next Gen ATP Finals, the new season-ending tournament for players aged 21 and under.
