Eir Sport picks up rights to Ireland tour of USA and Japan
Eir Sport, the Irish pay-television broadcaster, is to show the Ireland rugby union national team’s summer tour of Japan and USA.
Under the deal, Eir Sport will show Ireland’s game against USA at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey on 1 June, followed by games against Japan at the Ecopa Stadium in Fukuroi City on 17 June and Ajinomoto Stadium in Tokyo on 24 June.
The matches add to Eir Sport’s rugby offering that also includes matches from the European Rugby Champions Cup and England’s Aviva Premiership.
Last year, Eir Sport picked up exclusive rights in Ireland to the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.
The package of rights also includes this summer’s 2017 Women's Rugby World Cup, to be staged in Ireland (all of Ireland's matches will be shown on free-to-air TV), the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens from San Francisco and the 2017, 2018 and 2019 editions of the World Rugby U20 Championship.
Sky Sports, the UK pay-TV broadcaster, holds exclusive rights in UK and Ireland to the British and Irish Lions rugby union team’s tour of New Zealand this summer.
