Twitter hashtag #Paris 2024 achieves more than 1bn impressions in 200 countries
Competition between Paris 2024 and LA 2024, the committee for Los Angeles’ rival bid to host the games, has heated up since the start of the year, with LA 2024 recently accusing Paris 2024 of being behind a report by RTL, the French radio station, claiming that LA 2024 had used fringe internet companies to buy Facebook ‘likes’. This meant, RTL claimed, that LA 2024 was able to announce that it was the first of the rival bids to attract more than 1 million Facebook fans.
LA 2024 denied the claim, with a spokesman telling AFP: “All Facebook advertising has been purchased directly through Facebook. It's no surprise that this story originated from Paris.”The International Olympic Committee is due to select the host city in September.
