About The Rally dos Sertões:
The International Rally dos Sertões is the largest off-road race in Latin America and the third in the world in number of competitors, following the legendary Paris-Dakar and the famous Tunisia Rally both taking place in the African desert.
When it will take place:
The promotional startup of the 2005 International Rally dos Sertões is scheduled for July 30 in the city of Goiânia. The race ends 10 later also in the state capital of Goiás.
The Rally dos Sertões includes three classes:
Cross Country — Drivers face all kind of terrains: rocks, dirt, sand, river crossing, etc. They do not know the course and so they cannot train. Competitors navigate using a spreadsheet, a kind of a map. This class includes cars, motorbikes, trucks and quadricycles. The winner is who accelerates more. It is all about speed.
Regularity — This class started in the Rally dos Sertões in 2004. Four-wheel drive cars (4x4) compete in this class. The winner is the one who sticks closer to the average speed that organizers have set. It is divided into Tourism for beginners and Seasoned Drivers where more experienced drivers participate.
Expedition — 4x4 cars race in this class with competitors who enjoy adventure sports. Participants take part in many programs along the course. It is recommended for those who want to accompany the rally but do not want the competition stress. It is an ideal program for families and groups of friends.
