Tetley's Bitter Super League Heads for South Wales
In an historic move, the Tetley's Bitter Super League Round 13 game between London Broncos and Warrington Wolves will be played at Rodney Parade, the home of Newport Rugby Union Football club on Sunday, June 4th (Kick Off 3.00 PM). This will be the first time the ground has hosted professional Rugby League. Commenting on the announcement, Super League (Europe) Limited Chief Executive Ian Robson said, "We are delighted to be once again showcasing the Tetley's Bitter Super League to a new audience. I am sure sports fans in South Wales will be very impressed by what they see. "Staging this match will help the ongoing process of building an increased national profile for the competition and the sport of Rugby League." Newport 's Chairman David Watkins - who became a Welsh Rugby League and Great Britain international after switching codes - is delighted to be hosting the event. He said, "It's tremendously exciting to be staging a Tetley's Bitter Super League match at Newport. "I watched St Helens v Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves v St Helens on Sky Sports over Easter and was hugely impressed. The entertainment levels and crowd participation was tremendous. "It will be great for the people of Newport to see the skills of these two teams." Watkins - who broke Rugby League's all time record for most goals in a season and registered the longest scoring run whilst starring with Salford - has picked out Warrington Wolves' Australian Half Back Allan Langer as player who will make a big impression on any first time fans attending the game. Watkins said, "In Rugby League terms, I've always regarded the Australians as totally awesome and I believe that Allan Langer will be a star attraction." The Round 13 Broncos v Wolves match was originally scheduled for Welford Road but has been switched to avoid a potential clash with a fixture involving the Leicester Tigers club.
