Stratstone Becomes Official Car Sponsor of the Celtic Manor Wales Open 2006

Golf - 17 May 2006

Leading European Tour event and foremost prestige car dealership announce major sponsorship deal

Stratstone, the largest motor group in the United Kingdom has announced that it will be the official car sponsor of the 2006 Celtic Manor Wales Open golf tournament.  The £1.5 million European Tour event takes place at The Celtic Manor Resort from 1-4 June 2006.

Stratstone, which specialises in prestige cars including Aston Martin, Jaguar Mercedes, Ferrari, Porsche and Cadillac, will supply between 10 and 20 Jaguar XJ luxury saloons as courtesy cars to The 2006 Celtic Manor Wales Open. These cars will be used to transfer players and officials between The Celtic Manor Resort and The Lodge, where player’s changing facilities, the media centre and hospitality venues are located.

As part of this agreement, Stratstone will also supply courtesy cars beyond the tournament itself, which will be used to transport VIP guests to and from The Celtic Manor Resort.

The company will create a car display near to the tented village at the tournament, on which they will display several of their top of the range vehicles from a number of leading prestige manufacturers.

Stratstone will also receive significant on-course branding as well as a car display alongside the 15th fairway. The firm’s hospitality pavilion will host up to 75 guests a day and they will be treated to regular VIP visits from the likes of tournament ambassador Jodie Kidd and Chairman of The Celtic Manor Resort, Sir Terry Matthews.

The company will be supporting its sponsorship by running incentives across its dealerships including promotions for tickets to the event. The Celtic Manor Resort’s “Super Hero” cut-out advertisement boards will also be placed in key local dealerships to promote the event.

James Brearley, Operations Director, Stratstone, said: "The Celtic Manor Wales Open represents an excellent opportunity for Stratstone to showcase a number of our marques including Jaguar and Land Rover. The substantial corporate hospitality operation at the tournament provides a great environment for us to introduce prospective clients to a range of vehicles as well as entertaining existing customers.

"We are also delighted to be continuing our involvement with The Celtic Manor Resort beyond this event because there is a definite affinity between the luxury brands we represent and one of Europe's finest five-star resorts".

Jon Phelps, Director of The Celtic Manor Wales Open, said: “It is a great pleasure to welcome Stratstone as a sponsor of The Celtic Manor Wales Open. The continued growth and success of the tournament is now attracting some very prominent sponsors and this is a significant endorsement of our strategy of trying to make the event more than just a golf tournament.

“We have enjoyed considerable success this year on the sponsorship front, having recently announced a six-figure sponsorship deal with Atradius, the leading global credit insurer. Luxury Spa brand Payot has been announced as sponsor of our third successive Ladies Day, which will take place on Saturday June 3rd. Coca Cola has also come on board as a presenting sponsor of the Junior Wales Open which takes place on our Wentwood Hills course on the same day”.

With a world class field, a new tournament identity inspired by the pop art of Roy Lichtenstein, an expanded Ladies Day, the Junior Wales Open presented by Coca Cola and the announcement of new sponsors, this year’s event looks set to become the most high profile tournament ever held at The Celtic Manor Resort.

Confirmed entrants for this year’s tournament include Colin Montgomerie, the most successful golfer in Europe in 2005 and currently ranked number 18 in the world, reigning champion Miguel Angel Jiménez, six-time major winner Nick Faldo and current US Open Champion Michael Campbell who will become the first reigning major champion to appear at the tournament in its six year history.
