South Korean Government Ministers Monitor Progress of PyeongChang’s Bid for the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games
The visit included a briefing from bid officials and a tour around the Alpensia Resort, which is currently under construction. The building process began in October 2006 and the resort is expected to open in October 2008. Alpensia Resort is at the heart of the 2014 bid plans and will boast a ski resort with eight new slopes ready to host the biathlon, ski jumping, cross country, luge, bobsleigh and skeleton events.
Minister Park said: “The PyeongChang bid is a top national priority. The Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs will continue to work hard to back the bid.”
In addition, he made an announcement that the Ministry will give full assistance in terms of human resources and administration.
Han Seung-soo, Chairman of the PyeongChang 2014 Bid Committee said: “The strong support we have received from both the Korean people and our Government is very important to PyeongChang’s bid.”
Kim Jong-min, the new Minister for Culture and Tourism, will visit PyeongChang next week.
