South Africa to host Millennium Academy
IBF has awarded the 6th 'Millennium' Academy to Badminton South Africa and it will be staged at the historic University of Cape Town, 1-15 July 2000. The Academy brings together more than 50 of the most promising players and coaches from development projects and programmes world-wide for an intensive top level training course staffed by some of the world's top coaches. The facilities offered by the University of Cape Town are excellent for the Academy including 12 courts, strength training facilities and sports injuries clinic in the hall, with full board accommodation and lecture rooms on site. Last year the Academy took place at the World Rackets Centre in Malaysia and it has also taken place in USA, Germany, Norway and France. Federico Valdez, Deputy Chair of IBF's Development Committee said: "This will be the first time that the Academy has been awarded to an African nation and should provide a fantastic boost to development in the continent." IBF will be calling for candidate nominations from its 142 Member Associations from the beginning of January 2000 - demand for the limited places is expected to be very high once again.
