Plazamedia Sends the Bundesliga to Brazil
Ismaning, December 16, 2004 - For the first time, PLAZAMEDIA has acquired international online and mobile rights to the first and second football divisions of the Bundesliga. Germany's largest sport television producer is thus set to bring Marcelinho, Ailton, Zé Roberto, Lucio and other star athletes directly to the PCs and mobile handsets of many Brazilian fans. Some two dozen stars and players of the Seleção currently play professional German football, and the fans back home in Rio, São Paolo and Recife are quite interested in seeing the sports images from PLAZAMEDIA.
Along with the acquisition of the Bundesliga rights for Brazil, PLAZAMEDIA also signed a contract with another international partner: Terra Networks, one of the market leaders for broadband internet access in Brazil, is to become the licence holder for online and mobile football images. PLAZAMEDIA not only licences the Bundesliga rights to Terra Networks, it also provides this telecommunications firm with the finished media products. In the words of PLAZAMEDIA General Manager Florian Nowosad, 'Connecting the licensing with production results is a very attractive model for commercialisation in international markets.' Aside from Brazil, other countries are now also expressing interest in images from the Bundesliga for the internet and mobile communication devices.
PLAZAMEDIA GmbH, a company of the EM.TV Group, is one of the leading full-service TV providers and Germany's largest sports television producer. The firm offers sports productions of national and international football, ice hockey, basketball, boxing, Formula 1, and sailing as well as European and World Championships in the most diverse sporting disciplines.
