Pasqual Maragall: "The Catalan Government is one hundred percent behind Madrid 2012"
The Mayor of Madrid, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardon, has met this afternoon with Pasqual Maragall, President of the Regional Government of Catalonia, at the City Hall of Madrid. Maragall, who has posed with the Madrid 2012 bid book, has reasserted that “the Catalan Government is one hundred percent behind Madrid 2012”. The President of the Generalitat has added that “we think that Madrid has real chances of being elected and we are sure that Madrid can and must host organize the Olympic Games”.
After the meeting, Ruiz-Gallardon has stated that “we are immersed in an exciting project that the citizens of Madrid want to share with the whole Spain, and Catalonia has always been near to Madrid”. The Mayor has also said that “the success of Barcelona 92 is a clear example for Madrid and one of the most important assets with which Madrid counts for the next July 6th in Singapore”.
The Catalan support is very important for Madrid 2012, because Barcelona will be one of the football subvenues. The cooperation between both cities has been proved along the candidacy process. The meeting that a delegation of Madrid 2012, led by Feliciano Mayoral, President-CEO of Madrid 2012, had last November at the Pedralbes Palace in Barcelona with the Mayor of Barcelona, Joan Clos, demonstrates this cooperation.
