NBA and WNBA in Rights Deal with Greece's Alpha TV

Basketball - 19 Nov 2001

New York, NY, November 19, 2001 - The National Basketball Association (NBA) and the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) have entered a multi-year, multi-platform television agreement with Alpha TV --one of
Greece's leading broadcasters. The deal brings fans across the country NBA and WNBA programming for the 2001-02 NBA season and the 2002 WNBA season via Alpha TV, Polis TV and Alpha Digital Synthesis.

As part of the new deal, Alpha TV, a free over-the-air channel, will broadcast NBA All-Star 2002, the 2002 NBA Finals, and NBA Action -- a weekly highlight show including late-breaking news from around the league and a recap of the past week's on-court action. Polis TV, also a free
over-the-air channel, will feature a weekly NBA game throughout the season.

The DTH platform, Alpha Digital Synthesis, which provides programming direct to homes via satellite, will air a six-hour block of NBA.com TV programming seven days a week. Programming includes NBA games, updated daily highlights, classic programming and additional NBA news and footage.

'The popularity of basketball continues to soar worldwide,' said Scott Levy, Vice President of International Television and Media, NBA. 'The NBA is pleased to bring the excitement of the 2001-02 NBA season to even more fans in Greece through our partnership with Alpha TV. We look forward to working with them this season to provide viewers with the best basketball action.'

Each channel's basketball coverage will also include WNBA 2002 programming and will provide viewers with WNBA games, WNBA Action and WNBA-themed specials. For the 2001 WNBA season, rosters included 54 international players from 24 countries and territories.

This season, the NBA features a record 52 international players from 31 countries and territories on team rosters.
