Athletes1 in Two More Overseas Cricketer Deals
athletes1 has today underlined its position as the world’s leading cricket management company with the announcement that it has brokered two more deals for top international cricketers to play county cricket as overseas players.
This weekend, athletes1 clients Chaminda Vaas (Sri Lanka’s leading fast-bowling wicket taker of all time) and Vasbert Drakes (West Indian fast bowler) will commence stints with Hampshire and Leicestershire County Cricket Clubs respectively.
This brings to 14 the number of overseas player deals that athletes1 has brokered in county cricket for the 2003 season. Each of the 18 first-class counties is allowed two overseas players at any one time.
Joint Managing Director of athletes1, solicitor David Ligertwood (former Surrey and Durham cricketer) commented:
'It is pleasing at a time when we are making real progress in other sports such as football and rugby union, that our cricket division is going from strength to strength. More and more players around the world are realising that athletes1 is best placed, due to relationships, locations, experience and market knowledge, to source and negotiate playing and other opportunities for cricketers.'
athletes1 manages well over 100 cricketers from all around the world from it’s global network of offices and associations.
This year’s overseas players that athletes1 has placed in county cricket have come from, the West Indies, Sri Lanka, Australia and South Africa.
Other leading cricketers that athletes1 provides its unique professional services lead offering to include, Alec Stewart, Mark Butcher (England), Darren Lehmann, Martin Love (Australia), and Henry Olonga (Zimbabwe).
