IOC Gives Support for Dance Sport at the World Games
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has informed its National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the International World Games Association (IWGA)programme for the 2001 World Games in Akita, Japan August 16-26, 2001, and has encouraged the NOCs to support national multi-sport delegations taking part in the World Games.
DanceSport has been selected as one of the sports included in these World Games, and the IDSF recently informed those of its Members that have been qualified to take part. IWGA recommends that those Federations contact their
respective NOCs to make sure they are aware of IOC support for this initiative.
The IOC and the IWGA signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding at Monte Carlo on October 27, 2000, to further co-operation. The agreement was signed by IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch and IWGA President Ron Froehlich.
As part of this new agreement, Organising Committees of World Games will be granted IOC patronage and provided with technical assistance through the IOC transfer of knowledge programme.
