IAAF Appoints Marketing Director
Luis has spent the last 9 years working for Team Marketing, which has been UEFA's marketing partner for the UEFA Champions League in football since the competition was launched in 1992. He started his career as Press Attache to President Juan-Antonio Samaranch at the IOC before working for 8 years at ISL Marketing. He has university degrees in Political Science and Law and received his MBA Degree in Marketing and International Marketing at the European University in Montreux in 1986. He is 47 years old, was born in Barcelona and speaks English, Spanish and French.
IAAF President Lamine Diack said: "This appointment confirms my belief in the importance of marketing for the future of the IAAF. I am very happy that we have hired Luis, since he has a strong track record and all the credentials necessary to drive forward our future marketing plans. Thanks to our past marketing policy, the IAAF has secured a long term goal of having strong capital reserves but we are now looking to enhance the financial status of the IAAF, and to ensure the widest possible television coverage of our sport worldwide."
Note: The Japanese corporation Dentsu Inc is the IAAF’s exclusive worldwide partner responsible for the commercial exploitation of marketing. Under this agreement, IAAF has granted Dentsu, for the IAAF World Athletics Series 2001 – 2009, the worldwide rights for sponsorship, media including the Internet (except for EBU territory), and licensing. The IAAF World Athletics Series is composed of nine World Championships, including the World Championships in Athletics.
