Healthy Development Of DanceSport on TV Worldwide
Healthy Development Of DanceSport on TV worldwide
On October 14, 2002 the President of the International DanceSport Federation (IDSF) Rudi Baumann, IDSF 1st Vice President Harald Frahm, Treasurer Lukas Hinder and WDDSC Commission Chairman Vince Bain had a very successful meeting with representatives of Mark McCormack’s International Management Group (IMG): Eric Drossart (President IMG Europe, Africa & Middle East, responsible for the IMG/IDSF relations), Richard FitzGerald (TWI Finance Director) and Nikolaus von Groll (IMG Project Manager for IDSF events).
The recent announcement of an IOC decision regarding the 2008 Olympics was discussed, and it was agreed that while the issue of DanceSport participation in the Olympic Program in 2012 was a matter of conjecture, this did not in any way adversely impact on the development of the IMG/IDSF relationship. In fact both sides acknowledged that it was a healthy development to consider the development of DanceSport and the IDSF in a broader context than Olympic participation.
President Baumann confirmed that IDSF was seeking positive developments in all aspects of DanceSport, and that while both television and Olympic participation were important parts of the IDSF strategic plan, it was acknowledged and agreed by all of the IDSF and IMG representatives that the best path for IDSF was to develop all parts of its organisation.
The happy development of the opening of the German market was discussed, and Mr Frahm gave a detailed analysis of the situation and opportunities that existed in the German market for IMG events. He also gave his commitment to do his best to assist in the development of the IMG product in the German market. Mr Drossart received this information with pleasure and from the IDSF viewpoint it was pleasing to have an authority such as Mr Frahm to make these representations on our behalf to IMG.
The meeting also discussed the potential to improve the TV product IDSF is currently producing, and the need to present DanceSport in an exciting new light.
President Baumann then presented a proposal for exciting new developments that would benefit the IMG/IDSF Joint Venture. Mr Drossart received this information with great interest and it was agreed that the IDSF should begin as soon as possible to bring this proposal to realisation.
It was agreed that further meetings should be held to pursue all of these positive developments and meeting arrangements were made for further meetings Hamburg and Leipzig, Germany.
