Gerrard Signs for Lucozade Sport
Lucozade Sport are delighted to unveil England international and Liverpool star, Steven Gerrard, as their new face of football. One of the brightest talents in the English game, the influential 24-year-old midfield engine has signed an initial two year deal that will see him team up with the respected sports nutrition brand, benefiting from its expertise and scientifically formulated range of sports nutrition products.
Statistics have shown that professional footballers can run between 10 and 13km during a typical game, losing in excess of 4kg of fluid through sweat and breathing. With scientific studies showing that fluid losses of as little as 2% of body weight can have a negative impact on sporting performance, Lucozade Sport has been proven to maintain performance levels by supplying the essential hydration and energy boost through to the final whistle.
The Lucozade Sport team will work closely with Gerrard to increase his knowledge and understanding of the impact of nutrition on his sporting performance. In addition, Gerrard will be instrumental in helping the Lucozade Sport Science Academy (LSSA) test and develop their next generation of products. With over 30 years of experience, research and knowledge of sports science and nutrition, the LSSA is dedicated to improving the sporting performance of elite athletes and the exercising public through extensively testing real athletes and by recreating real sporting situations.
‘Lucozade Sport plays an essential role in my preparation, performance and recovery’, said Gerrard. ‘At the highest level, the game is becoming increasingly competitive and it is vital that I am fully fuelled for all training sessions and matches. A permanent fixture for both Liverpool and England, the popular midfielder is renowned for his commitment to the game.
