Fox Sports International Acquires Rights to Lamar Hunt US Open Cup
Fox Sports International will produce and distribute the United States oldest soccer cup competition, the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup for the next four years (2000 - 2003). The competition, which dates back to 1914, is open to all affiliated amateur and professional teams, much like the FA Cup in England.
The Cup is similar in format to knockout cup competitions around the world, with drawn matches being decided via two periods of golden goal extra time and then penalties. The competition gives amateur teams from across the United States the opportunity to take on the MLS giants.
FSI will produce the event for broadcast on it's affiliate channels (Fox Sports World, Fox Sports Latin America, Fox Sports Middle East and Fox Sports Eastern Europe) and for FSI Syndicated Sales distribution. In 2000 Fox will produce four games, including the final in English and Spanish.
Fox Sports International has the worldwide rights to the Cup for all forms of media, live and/or delay, unlimited replay and highlight rights; Internet rights - highlights and live and/or delayed streaming video/audio rights. Footage for promotions, signage and tickets are also available.
The dates for Fox produced coverage in 2000 are as follows;
Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 1 x Quarter-final
Wednesday, August 23, 2000 - 2x Semi-finals
Sunday, October 22, 2000 - Lamar Hunt US Open Cup of Soccer Final
Kick-off times will be announced nearer to the scheduled dates.
