ALMS:San Diego Season Opener Cancelled
Motor racing - 09 Dec 1999
The San Diego Grand Prix has been cancelled from next year's American Le Mans Series calendar. The event was due to open the season on February 27, 2000. 'The San Diego Grand Prix organizers were unable to meet the established time lines in preparation for the rescheduled February event,' said Bill Donaldson, executive director of the American Le Mans Series. Donaldson added that international events for the 2000 schedule are currently being negotiated and a revised schedule should be finalized soon. The San Diego event was originally to be held on November 7, 1999. However, ALMS organisers claim it was pushed back to give organisers extra time to prepare. The second ALMS season will now begin with a 12 Hours race at Sebring, Florida on March 18.
