European Surfing Federation Appoints First Ever Marketing Agency
The European Surfing Federation (ESF) is pleased to announce a partnership with Destination Marketing International (DMI) to create a development strategy and commercial rights programme for the sport in Europe over the next 3 years.
The ESF is the regional governing body with responsibility for the regulation and promotion of grassroots surfing throughout Europe. ESF controls, in conjunction with it member National Associations, the rights to the ‘European Championships’ and ‘European Bodyboard Tour’, amongst other rights.
Biarritz based DMI, is a specialist media and marketing agency with a focus on the development of sporting properties, media production and destination marketing programmes, and it’s founder and managing director, Louie Hubbard has many years of experience in dealing with sports federations and tourism ministries.
DMI currently includes amongst its clients the International Triathlon Union (ITU), the 49er Olympic Class Association, the Corporate Games and Snowbombing (Europe’s largest Snowboarding Music Event), and one of its key tasks for ESF will be to provide an integrated Media and Marketing solution to the Federation.
ESF President, Doug Creedon states, 'The federation to date has not had the capacity to truly realise its commercial position, an issue that all Associations now recognise. We need to change in order to invest and develop at grass roots the growing interest in surfing within Europe. This will not happen overnight and our relationship with DMI, now gives us the flexibility to fully understand who and what we are in order to develop our strategy and ultimately satisfy the longer-term development needs of this great sport’.
DMI has worked with the sport of surfing through its association with media partners to the ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) but also closer to home through its’ sister company ‘657 Post Production’ who work with the leading surf brands such as Quiksilver, O’Neill and Gotcha in creating TV programmes, videos and advertising.
DMI’s Louie Hubbard says about the appointment, 'As with any new relationship, we are getting to know each other, but the fundamentals of what needs to be achieved are very real to us. Over the coming months, we will be working with the ESF to uncover, evaluate and outline a more detailed future strategy for these exciting sports properties, a process that is very necessary for all emerging sports federations. We believe that we are well placed to help the ESF meet their long-term objectives’.
