Euroleague Basketball Bets On Innovative Technology
BARCELONA -- September 14th, 2005 -- In all future games, starting with the upcoming 2005-06 season, Euroleague Basketball will be using the Precision Time System, a revolutionary technology that will facilitate the elimination of errors in control of the game clock, especially at critical moments that come in the course of play at the ends of quarters and possessions.
After analysing the different options available in the technology market that work at eliminating the inevitable human errors in time keeping during basketball games, Euroleague Basketball has decided to introduce the Precision Time System for next season.
This innovative system consists of three components that are equally important: Base Station, which is designed to interface with all existing arena, stadium, coliseum and gymnasium time-keeping equipment; Belt Packs, worn by on-court officials, to signal the starts and stoppages of playing time; Omni-Directional Microphones, also worn by officials, are tuned to a specific whistle frequency, instantly stopping the game clock when the whistle is blown - at the speed of light.
With the implementation of this high-precision system, Euroleague Basketball strives to offer a new tool that should avoid and type of time-keeping error, to the benefit of all who participate in the Europe's best club competition. Clubs, coaches, players, referees, game commissioners and timers will be able to manage with better precision the most decisive moments of each game that Euroleague Basketball plays in future seasons.
