Euroleague Basketball and Spanish National Committee for UNICEF Announce Agreement
This agreement will be focused on the “Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS” global campaign and specially on a new initiative that brings the possibility to help 2.500.000 kids below 15 years infected with VIH virus with just 5 € per month. With this small contribution of 60 € per year one child will receive all the medical attention needed to treat this illness. The final goal of this campaign is to cover all the medical needs of the 80 % of the victims in 2010.
This agreement wants to consolidate the importance of the Euroleague Basketball social responsibility program “Euroleague for Life”, having collaborated previously with Greek National Committee for UNICEF during the 2007 Euroleague Final Four in Athens and during Regular Season Competition Date 6 in all Euroleague Basketball arenas, with the aim of making some small difference in the lives of those who need it most.
As Spanish National Committee for UNICEF Executive Director, Paloma Escudero, underlines “We believe that children are the missing face of AIDS that is still a huge challenge all over the world. Each day, more than a thousand children under fifteen are infected with HIV/AIDS. We encourage everybody to join us in protecting children against HIV/aids. That is the final goal of UNICEF campaign Unite for children/ Unite against HIV/AIDS”
“We are proud to sign an agreement to continue collaborating and offer our platform to raise awareness of Unicef´s campaign “UNITE for children UNITE against AIDS” Through developing our Euroleague for Life programme we aspire to reach out to those children and people who have not been as fortunate as us” states Mr. Jordi Bertomeu, Euroleague Basketball CEO.
