ESPN to use ORAD's Virtual Replay for Soccer show

Soccer - 28 Jun 2000

Orad, the world leader in virtual set technologies, virtual advertising, and sports broadcasting enhancement tools, announced today that it will be providing its Virtual Replay system for Major League Soccer's (MLS) new weekly highlight show, ExtraTime, on ESPN2.

Virtual Replay from Orad will allow ExtraTime's producers to generate 3D animated versions of key plays that can be viewed from 360 degrees, giving the viewer every possible angle and player perspective on the play.

'We are very excited that Major League Soccer has chosen our dynamic sports analysis tool Virtual Replay to be a key ingredient in their new weekly series,' said Mark J. Jeffers, Senior Vice President Sports Sales & Development for Orad, Inc. 'This is an excellent start to a great partnership with MLS.'

'MLS ExtraTime will offer soccer fans in-depth analysis far beyond what they can see and hear on our game telecasts,' said MLS Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer John Ertmann. 'Orad's Virtual Replay technology is a key component in this effort.'

Major League Soccer is America's premiere men's professional soccer league and features many top stars from the United States and around the world. The 12 teams playing in MLS are: the Chicago Fire, Colorado Rapids, Columbus Crew, Dallas Burn, D.C. United, Kansas City Wizards, Los Angeles Galaxy, NY/NJ MetroStars, Miami Fusion, New England Revolution, San Jose Earthquakes and the Tampa Bay Mutiny.

In June 2000, ESPN2 reached the 70 million household mark, faster than any cable network in history. ESPN2, now seen in 70.3 million homes, reached this milestone in 80 months, more than one year faster than the next fastest network. Nine out of 10 ESPN households (78 million) now also receive ESPN2.
