Barcelona, July 16th, 2007.
Euroleague Basketball has unveiled a new educational initiative, the Euroleague Basketball Institute, whose first season will be highlighted by an on-line coaching clinic hosted by CSKA Moscow head coach Ettore Messina. The clinic will run between February 18 and June 18, 2008. With this one-of-a-kind clinic, the Euroleague Basketball Institute aims to give fans, journalists, referees and coaches from around the world a chance to gain first-hand knowledge of how the best coaches in Europe have developed their philosophy and created their own brand of dynamic basketball. The clinic's first edition offers a unique opportunity to learn from one of the greatest minds in basketball. With three different teams over the last decade, Coach Messina has been a Euroleague champion three times and has participated in four additional Final Fours. He was named the Alexander Gomelskiy Euroleague Coach of the Year in 2006. Students of the on-line clinic will be in contact with Coach Messina during the four-month course and especially at its closing session, a four-day on-court experience that will coincide with the 2008 ULEB Summer League in Jesolo, Italy. Enrolment for the on-line clinic with Ettore Messina will be open throughout the regular season of the upcoming Euroleague season, from October 29 to February 1. Tuition for the course will be €1,000, with a discounted price of €800 for students coming from ULEB member clubs and leagues.
"For me, it's a great privilege and an honor to start this project for the Euroleague Basketball Institute," Messina said when the clinic was announced at the Euroleague Draw. "It's a great opportunity to help Euroleague Basketball expand itself and knowledge about the Euroleague beyond Europe, as well as a great opportunity for us to meet coaches in many countries and share our experiences. The greatest part of this project is that its not only happening through a machine on the computer, but there will also be hands-on learning at the end when the students and I stay together for a four-day session. We'll combine the on-line experience with that face-to-face learning to help spread the word about world basketball."
