Doping Controls in The World Baseball Classic

Lausanne 06.02.2006.- During the World Baseball Classic, WBC, to begin next March 3rd, the International Baseball Federation, IBAF, will carry out 108 doping controls, as agreed with the Major League Baseball, MLB, and the Players ssociation, MLBPA, owners of the competition.

All the controls will be done under the IBAF rules, which are governed by the World Anti-Doping Code of the Olympic Movement and the World Anti-Doping Agency, WADA. Controls will be applied to 27 games by lot from a total of 39 games to be played, to two players of each team also chosen by lot. This supposes the 22,5% of the 480 players participating in the competition. Prior to the opening of the World Baseball Classic, the IBAF will apply 80 out of competition controls more, also by lot among every player included in the preliminary team roster.
