Adidas Sponsors Next Two World Cups
ISL Worldwide, an ISMM Group company, has announced today that adidas, a global sporting goods leader, has decided to renew its long-term commitment to football by becoming Official Partner of the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cup. adidas has also acquired sponsorship rights for all other related FIFA events in the period 2000 until 2006, such as the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
For Philippe Margraff, Head of the ISL Football Department, adidas has now a unique opportunity to renew its communication efforts on a global basis: 'Today, global corporations need to speak a global language to reach their global audience. No other sport touches and fascinates people worldwide as football does. adidas speaks this one and only truly global language so well that football and adidas have become one.'
Erich Stamminger, member of the Executive Board of adidas-Salomon AG, responsible for marketing worldwide, commented: 'adidas is the undisputed number one football brand in the world. Our long-term commitment to the FIFA World Cup underscores our determination to remain the brand of choice for players and fans worldwide, at every level of the game.'
To further highlight the commitment to football in general and specifically to FIFA, adidas will launch a FIFA-branded, high-quality apparel line. adidas has also acquired licensing rights for adidas-branded goods such as sport apparels. As in the past, adidas will continue to supply the Official FIFA Matchball and provide the apparel for football referees.
The sponsorship agreement has been signed between adidas and ISL Worldwide, one of the world’s leading sports media and marketing companies. ISL Worldwide is responsible for composing and co-ordinating the group of prominent multinational corporations who lend their financial and logistical support to the FIFA World Cup, above all, but also to other events and projects in the FIFA calendar.
Besides adidas, four more Partners have already signed up for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. They are Budweiser, Coca-Cola, Gillette and McDonald’s. These four companies are also Official Partners of the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan, bringing the number of Partners for this event to nine: adidas, Budweiser, Coca-Cola, Fujifilm, Gillette, Hyundai, JVC, MasterCard and McDonald’s.
