“6 Villages for 2006” – A Positive Echo
Georg Willeit, executive director of SOS Children’s Villages worldwide, based in Munich, added: “The fact that donations are increasing by the day and that many football stars have shown great commitment to the cause demonstrates that “6 Villages for 2006” has touched the hearts of countless people”
FIFA President Blatter, who has visited several SOS Children’s Villages in Africa and South America, is pleased that the “6 Villages for 2006” campaign will enable children in underdeveloped countries to look forward to a better future.
The six new SOS Children’s Villages (in Brazil, Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa, the Ukraine and Vietnam) will afford permanent support in the form of schools, social centres, kindergartens and other related infrastructure to 5,000 boys and girls. 800 of these children will find a permanent home in these new SOS Children's Villages. Furthermore, 1,000 families will have access to help from the SOS social centres.
The FIFA Confederations Cup is serving as a dress rehearsal for SOS Children’s Villages as well prior to the 2006 FIFA World Cup™, when several activities will be taking place in and around the World Cup stadiums. Recently, both Andriy Shevchenko (AC Milan, Ukraine) and Joachim Löw (German national team assistant coach) announced their commitment to the “6 Villages for 2006” campaign. Football legends Jorginho (Brazil) and Thomas Helmer (Germany) have been actively involved in the campaign for some time.
