Women's Basketball Director Awarded OBE
English Basketball Association's Director for Women, Pat Fairclough, has been awarded an OBE in the New Year's Honours List for services to basketball. Pat, now in her second term as Director for Women, has been involved with grassroots basketball in London for many years and has also achieved recognition through Table Officiating where she was the Trainer for Table Officials at the Atlanta Olympics. The award is in recognition of Pat's long service to the grassroots game of basketball and her involvement at policy making level within the English Basketball Association. Fellow OBE recipient Chairman Betty Codona said of Pat: "This is a recognition for Pat's long commitment to basketball at many levels and we are delighted that basketball and Pat have been recognised in this way." Pat also received the Sunday Times Female Sports Administrator of the Year Award in November 1999 and said of both awards: "It is a great honour to receive this award in recognition for my voluntary commitment and dedication to basketball development and promotion. Basketball has been part of my life for over 32 years, working in all aspects of the game for all ages and abilities, and it is great to be appreciated. Special thanks to my family for their continual support and to those who nominated me for this award and the Sunday Times Sportswoman Administrator of the Year. I trust that the awards will be an encouragement and inspiration for volunteers and women to believe in their abilities, share their knowledge and be positive in their aims and objectives." "I acknowledge that these awards will not be possible without the guidance and strength from God to overcome any obstacles and the support of the EBBA membership. My main desire is to see women's basketball achieve the status it deserves".
