The BBC, the UK public-service broadcaster, will provide more than 300 hours of television coverage from the forthcoming 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

There will be live action of all seven winter sports across the BBC One and BBC Two channels, and a further live stream will be available on the broadcaster's iPlayer streaming service, Red Button, and the BBC Sport website.

Daily coverage will begin on BBC One from midnight until 6AM (UK time).

With a limited on-site presence due to coronavirus restrictions, TV coverage will be presented from a virtual reality studio for the games.

BBC Sport online will offer a live stream of the action from Beijing as well as on-demand video clips, medal tables, live text commentaries, reports, and features.

The BBC will provide a daily highlights show on BBC Two, while there will be a BBC Three ‘Extra’ offering – a daily one-hour show with extended highlights.

There will be additional coverage on BBC Radio Five Live with a daily schedule of shows, as well as on the BBC’s digital platforms.

The BBC will also roll out interactive content on its social media platforms.

Olympians Lizzy Yarnold, Sarah Lindsay, Jayne Torvill, Christopher Dean, Graham Bell, and Chemmy Alcott will be among the analysts for the broadcaster’s coverage.

The Winter Olympics will begin on February 4 and run until February 20.

Barbara Slater, director of BBC Sport, said: “We are delighted to bring audiences the very best action and medal moments from Beijing. Our expert line-up of international winter sport stars, combined with our round-the-clock coverage, will ensure that the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games take pride of place in an already mouth-watering sporting year.”

The BBC holds UK broadcasting rights to the Olympics until Paris 2024, in part through a sub-licensing deal with US media giant Discovery, which has pan-European rights.

Meanwhile, CBC, the Canadian public service broadcaster, has also revealed its broadcasting plans for the Beijing Games, with 23 hours a day of coverage from its studios in Toronto.

More than 2,400 hours of live content will be shown across its platforms, including the CBC network itself and its TSN and Sportsnet partner networks, the CBC Gem streaming service, the CBC Sports mobile app, and CBC’s Beijing 2022 website.

The website will host live-streaming of the TV broadcasts as well as non-TV events, and it will also feature event schedules, results, athlete bios and features, and daily updates, among other things.

Chris Wilson, executive director for sports and Olympics at CBC, said: “The current state of the pandemic has Canadians focused on their health and well-being. Our team at CBC is just as concerned about this as we prepare to produce our second Olympics in six months under pandemic conditions. Our number one priority is keeping our team safe and healthy, whether they be in Beijing, Toronto or Montreal.

“That said, we also believe that the Olympic Winter Games can once again provide some relief and escape for Canadians and unite the country around the performances of Team Canada just as Tokyo did last summer. With this in mind, we’re offering around-the-clock coverage of Beijing 2022 across all of our platforms, giving audiences the choice to watch and follow however, wherever, and whenever they want. We look forward to the start of the Games and experiencing them with audiences from coast-to-coast-to-coast.”
